Consulting and Development Partners is proud to call for young artists/musicians from Albania, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia to apply for a 4 weeks’ artist in residence program, taking place at Arka Youth Centre, in Shkoder, Albania.
What is the Residency about?
The residency is conceived within the framework of the project Music beyond all borders: new narratives for a melodious Balkan funded by the Swiss Cultural Fund in Albania (SCFA), a project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and will be hosted by the Consulting and Development Partners.
Who do we want to achieve?
This residency gives artists an opportunity to live and work in Shkoder, Albania for one month.
During the residency the musical culture of the countries participating is thought to be manifested as playing:
1- in traditional music arrangement and
2 – the modified version of modern composition
– Instrumental music:
1- presented in melodies and traditional dances
2- the modern version of modern composition.
The whole residency program will convey around these above mentioned components.
The main aim of these performances is the exchange of experiences and artistic cultures each Balkan country can represent with their particularities and vivid diversity.
In order to achieve a successful execution, we have worked hard beforehand with selecting the materials needed. The settlement of the infrastructure for this kind of project has begun long time ago so that the performances will have a strong impact on the audience.
What do we offer?
We offer residents access to particular resources and opportunities for their one month stay.
Consulting and Development Partners runs Arka Youth and Cultural Center: a multifunctional space where artists will stay during the residency. We will support them if they want to do any artistic research related to the city of Shkoder.
Further they will be in touch with the art scene of Shkodra as during the residency period the cultural scene in Shkoder will be active too.
Logistic and institutional support will be in place if that selected artists wish to hold workshops or master classes related music with Shkodra young musicians.
How are you financially supported?
The residency is fully funded and includes travel expenses, free accommodation and meals, spaces and didactic materials.
Who can apply?
The artists in the residency are foreseen to be 10.
The age is from 25 – 35 years old.
The residency is organised for artists from Albania, Serbia, Bosnia, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro.
The instrumentalist and the vocals that we will be selecting for the residency are:
· One quartet of strings
· Three solo instrumentalists
· Three solo singers
